History of Realtor Women

International Women’s Day, March 8th

Women have played a very active role in the real estate profession since the very beginning, in the 1700s. During that time period, women would take care of all of the administration details that went along with the business. This was during a time when land was being “granted” by the king of England, rather than the buying and selling an exchange of property that we are more familiar with today. Once this land was acquired, its owner would sell smaller parcels of it to farmers by using a “Land Jobber”, also known as the modern day realtor. 

In the 1950s women became very predominant in the real estate profession, as it was a career that had flexibility for women who were raising their children while their husbands were at work. Today’s realtors still have that same convenience, which is why so many people are becoming realtors every day.

According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), over 67% of licensed realtors are women. The average age of those female realtors is between 50 and 60, and of those women the average experience is 8 years in the real estate business. That information is just incredible to retain and know that so many are thriving in the business. 

Real Estate is an ever changing business… changing in interest rates, home values, property taxes, dynamics of realtors, and so much more! We can be certain that it is always a growing business, and it is available to everyone who wants a part of it.
